The Entrance to TheCampaignTrail.net
Welcome to TheCampaignTrail.net!
- This is a website we hope to continually add mods to, all inspired by and which pay tribute to the original election scenarios designed by Dan Bryan on AmericanHistoryUSA.
- Right now there are six new scenarios on the site (1908, 1940, 1956, 1972, 1984, 1996), and another on the way shortly (1800). This comes in addition to four existing mods in the DB style which have been ported over with very minor visual changes (1876, 1964, 2004, 2008).
- This site will also feature short articles about each election year, providing context from the mod creators about the significance of the issues, the campaigns, and the candidates in each scenario. This is an example of one!
FAQ
- This site is stupid. Can I just go somewhere and play all the mods?
Campaign Trail Showcase and The New Campaign Trail feature hundreds of mods which you are encouraged to check out. While we may add some of these scenarios to those sites further down the line, it's not a top priority right now, and nothing specific has been sketched out yet. - What about stuff like W. or Divided States? Will you add those?
We feel these do not mesh with the original Dan Bryan format. Not every scenario has to. In fact, all of us hope the game continues to evolve and experiment going forward. But this is a fork where the original vision of the game will be honored, with only very minor additions such as limited CYOA, alternate colors, and some conditional endings. There will be no incumbency sims with multiple opponents and extensive CYOA on TheCampaignTrail.net. - These mods are cool. Do you plan to make any more scenarios like this?
We do! Going forward, we have our eyes on several other election years, along with some alternate history scenarios, as originally envisioned by Dan Bryan (who had considered ones like 1980 with a successful Eagle Claw rescue or 1992 where Perot never drops out). Again, we envision this site as a living tribute to AmericanHistoryUSA. Just as Dan Bryan continued to make new scenarios, we will too. - Okay, but can you give us a hint about exactly which new scenarios you plan to explore?
Well, in addition to 1800 (coming very shortly), we're certainly never done with Nixon or the Kennedys. Apart from that, all of us want to explore prewar and 19th century elections, a lot more. But that is not to exclude any more scenarios from the 21st century or in the 1960s-70s. There are already several of those and alternate history scenarios in the works. - I love this game.
Thank you!
